Fire Stop Helper (Non Exempt)
Performs semi skilled fire stop work to prevent spread of heat, fire, gasses, or smoke on commercial and industrial construction and maintenance projects using tools and equipment common to the trade.
Work Experience
Beginner to 5 years minimum experience and on the job training or equivalent classroom training. Should be proficient in installation of all common materials. Must pass required training and testing within 30 days of employment and refresher training and testing on a three year basis. Must work under close supervision of experienced installer for first 180 days.
Job Requirements
- Install proper system or reviewed engineered judgment in strict accordance with the selected system detail
- Unload and store materials in secure locations with proper environmental conditions. Verify materials conform to company and manufacturers standards. Keep materials orderly.
- Cleanup continuously
- Follow safety precautions
- Coordinate with other trades
- Build scaffolding
- Fill out time card
- Travel to multiple job sites within a wide area
- After 180 day period serve as fire stop mechanic on small projects under close supervision of project manager
- Other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Drivers License
- Pass Background Check
- Personal Vehicle
- Provide common hand tools
Education
Must have the language and math skills needed to perform duties. High School Education or GED would generally provide the skills needed.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, crawl, and climb at least 2/3 of a work day
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 100 pounds
- Vision – must be good or correctable with glasses
Work Environment
Must be able to work in outside weather, hot and cold inside conditions, areas where there may be toxic and caustic chemicals, moving machine parts, vibrations and loud noise. Must order and use safety equipment as needed. Work assignments will change often with different conditions and must be able to adjust.
