Insulation Mechanic (Non Exempt)
Performs skilled and semi skilled fire stop work to prevent spread of heat, fire, gasses, or smoke on commercial and industrial construction and maintenance projects using tools and equipment common to the trade.
Work Experience
Mechanic should have 5 years minimum experience and on the job training or equivalent classroom training. Mechanic should be proficient in installation of all common materials.
Job Requirements
- Secure common insulation materials to pipes, ducts, & equipment
- Weather proof and finish insulation with field applied jackets and coatings
- Insulation and vapor seal for low temperature installations
- Serve as job site foreman – supervise crew assigned to your project
- Read and interpret correctly job orders
- Operate lifts
- Order material and equipment
- Unload and store materials – keep materials orderly
- Cleanup Project continuously
- Follow safety precautions and make sure other workers on project work safely
- Keep MSDS Book on sites and make available as needed
- Clean up job site continuously
- Coordinate with other trades
- Communicate with customers
- Assist project manager in manpower planning
- Build scaffolding
- Fill out time cards
- Fill out Time and Material sheets and get signed
- Measure change orders
- Must have interpersonal skills for dealing with multiple problems and people
- Shop math skills for figuring areas and amounts and ability to read a rule
- Self starter capable of working on own without daily supervision
- Travel to multiple job sites within a wide area
- Other duties as needed

- Pass Background Check
- Personal Vehicle
- Provide common hand tools
Education
Mechanic must have the language and math skills needed to perform duties. High School Education or GED would generally provide the skills needed.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, reach, crawl, and climb at least 2/3 of a work day
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 100 pounds
- Vision – must be good or correctable with glasses
- Hearing – must be adequate to work safely
Work Environment
Must be able to work in outside weather, hot and cold inside conditions, areas where there may be toxic and caustic chemicals, moving machine parts, high elevations, vibrations and loud noise. Must order and use safety equipment as needed. Work assignments will change often with different conditions and must be able to adjust.
